Railfan photographers spend lots of time researching
the best locations to capture the action of speeding
trains in very scenic locations. In this powerful photo,
Don Winslow from California chose a tight curve in
this desert location. He framed the scene so that the rails
come from the lower left corner and lead the eye right
to the oncoming locomotive. He hit the shutter at the
moment the train rounded the bend and it's right at a
power point of the "rule of thirds."
The "sweet light" of twilight illuminates the tracks,
makes the sky glow and
the headlights of the train add wonderful lighting
effects for a fantastic Railfan Photo.
