                   Matt Calardo

Photographing snow scenes even in your backyard can give the photographer
exposure fits. But to be high atop a mountain peak way above the clouds in extremely bright sunlight is taking exposure to the extreme. Matt Calardo is a specialist in extreme sports photography and captured this stunning ski scene.
His position was looking right into the intense sun as the skier raced down the
mountain. This posed the threat of allowing the sun to “fake out” the camera meter
causing severe underexposure unless he made compensation. On the flip side,
this strong backlighting, which Matt handled perfectly was the main ingredient in
producing a photograph of what skiing in heaven might look like
